Bights & Sounds Vacation Homes are located in the Newfoundland communities of Clarenville, Hickman’s Harbour and Terra Nova. As you know, Newfoundland is the island portion of the province of Newfoundland & Labrador. It is Canada’s most easterly province, and in fact, it is North America’s most easterly point – “The Far East of the Western World”.

Town of Clarenville
The Cromwell, The Cove, The Point are all located in Clarenville, Newfoundland Canada. Just as Newfoundland and Labrador was the original gateway to North America centuries ago, Clarenville is considered the gateway to the Discovery Trail today.
The Town of Clarenville is less than a two hour drive from St. John’s and Gander.
Coming from St. John’s
From St. John’s, head west on the Trans Canada Highway. As you approach Clarenville, you can begin to appreciate the area’s beauty as you round the look-out turn just 3 km east of Clarenville.
To find our houses, simply turn right at the first entrance into Clarenville (immediately after the Clarenville Irving on the TCH). You are now on Memorial Drive. Drive through Clarenville, take note of the beautiful waterfalls on the left at the base of the hill as you enter Clarenville…to the right is one of the Clarenville Goose Sanctuaries (you can explore this beautiful network of walking trails later!).
The Cromwell House …once you cross the bridge, veer left (Memorial Drive) at the fork in the road and head through Clarenville, and go straight through the set of lights. As you wind your way through Clarenville, keep your eyes open, you will find us just to your left…where Memorial Drive intersects with Poplar Road.
The Cove House …once you cross the bridge, veer right (Marine Drive) at the fork in the road. Once you pass the United Church, keep your eyes open for The Cove on the right hand side.
The Point Suites …keep going beyond The Cove House. You will pass the Marina, go around a sharp turn. You will see the Point, on the point on the right hand side!
Coming from the West
If arriving via Port aux Basques, Clarenville is approximately 8 hour drive – if heading straight across. But take your time…there’s plenty to see! Clarenville is just an hour and a half from Gander, and 20 minutes from the Eastern Gateway to Terra Nova National Park.. When approaching Clarenville from the west, take the first entrance into Clarenville, on your left, just a few hundred meters beyond the Visitor Information Center. You’re on now on Manitoba Drive, the Town’s commercial and retail area. Drive straight through the first set of traffic lights (don’t forget to stop if the lights are red!!!) and turn left at the next set of lights. Now you are on Memorial Drive.
The Cromwell House …As you wind your way through Clarenville, keep your eyes open, you will find us just to your left…where Memorial Drive intersects with Poplar Road.
The Point Suites …just as you take the left at the lights, you will take a right just past the tennis courts and head down “Legion Road”. AT the bottom or the road, you take a right on Marine Drive. You will see the Point on the left hand side.
The Cove House …keep going passed the Point, pass the Marina and Mercer’s Marine. You will find The Cove House on the left hand side, just before the United Church.
Aunt Minnie’s Salt Box, Hickman’s Harbour
To get Hickman’s Harbour drive through Clarenville, beyond The Cromwell House. Continue on through the community of Shoal Harbour until you see the large green signs for “Random Island”. Turn left, just passed Cabot Home Centre. Cross the causeway …you’re now on Random Island. Keep driving through to Hickman’s Harbour. You’ll find Aunt Minnie’s….
The Village Retreat, Terra Nova
Heading west on the TCH from Clarenville (approximately 40 km), in the middle of Terra Nova National Park, turn left at the signs for Terra Nova Town. Travel approximately 19km on the gravel road (don’t worry, its in good shape!). Once you reach the village (and hit pavement again) take a left to make the loop around the town. You can’t miss us.
